If my people.
When I woke up yesterday, on a cold stormy day, the bible verse that begins with the phrase If my people was still hanging in the air from a dream I had. I made a mental note and let it rattle around in my brain all day while I went about my morning. When it grew dark outside due to storm clouds, I took my phrase and cuddled up with the good book to read and write. The chill soothed the pains of fibromyalgia, lessened the ache like a big cold pack for the body. A soft fleece blanket warmed me back up while the if my people verse kept popping up like a road sign on the highway.
2 Chron 7:14 If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven forgive their sin and heal their land.
My first thought and written response after typing the verse out was, “We all need healing.” However, there is a big If at the beginning of the verse. If my people who are called by my name.
The verse doesn’t say everybody. It says my people. He didn’t ask the whole world to pray. God said my people who are called by my name.
It is a call to prayer.
This winter season is a call to prayer. God is calling his people to pray for America and healing.?
Are you one of those people that God is talking about right there? If you are one of God’s people, then the instruction is clear. God’s people are told to humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways, so that part 2 of the verse can happen.
Humble ourselves.
Pray.
Seek God’s face.
Turn from wickedness.
That’s the job, our job as God’s people. The job starts with humility before God. Involves prayer and seeking God’s face. When we do that, coupled with a decision to turn from wickedness, God will open heaven for America.
He will heal our land after a season of prayer. It is a promise.
Let us humble ourselves before God, be grateful and thankful. Let’s come come before his presence with thanksgiving and singing. And when we pray, we will take the time to forgive others, forgive ourselves.
The last step is to turn from our wickedness. Only you or I know what our respective issues are, so we need to deal with those. We should also ask for forgiveness for our national sins. The one that comes to mind is abortion. First that it is legal, and secondly, the barbaric way it is done. Whatever is in your heart to pray over and turn from or ask for forgiveness for our nation, do that.
Let us humble ourselves, pray,
seek God’s face,
*Turn Turn Turn from wickedness
and he will heal our land.
Barefoot and writing,
Kim
