October, November, and Psalm 23

I’ve been waiting for October and November where the days are cool and crisp. Even as I enjoyed our pool in September, I felt the coming cold weather in my spirit. I ached for the breezes, the mornings on the porch with lower humidity, long walks. Such as in the beloved Psalm 23, I ask God to lead me beside quiet waters.

Psalm 23: verses 1-3.

1 The LORD is my shepherd;

I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside quiet waters.

3 He restores my soul;

He guides me in the paths of righteousness

for the sake of His name.

My soul longs to be restored, revived, rejuvenated, repaired

In this season and time, I deeply need the healing energy and joy that comes from the touch of Jesus.

Christian writers call it thirst. I thirst for the one who satisfies. Nothing else fills me like his Presence.

In response to God’s urging through Psalm 23 this morning, I turned on some quiet encouraging music. It was as if I submerged myself in a warm bath, because all my anxiety started to melt away.

I reminded myself not to lose the peace.

We are reminded to not let the enemy of peace and joy steal our peace and joy.

Joy is our strength.

And peace? It is part of our armor.

I peter 5:8 NKJV
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Stay diligent and alert.

Yikes, I haven’t had the energy to be diligent and yet… God sends reinforcements through music, his word, and through friends.

Psalm 3:3 But You, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.

He lifted my head. I imagine it as if his hand lifts my chin up like my mom did when I was young.

Scriptures like Psalm 23 transform us.

What do you need to regain your peace? Let go of whatever is holding you back right now.

Go away fear. Leave me anger and anxiety. God fill those places with your holy spirit and help me lift my head again.

Breathe in the life of Psalm 23.

The Lord is my shepherd.

I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters,

restores my soul.

guides me.

Verses 4-6

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

for You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy will follow me

all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD

forever.

Let’s inhale some scripture, then absorb some music, feel the breeze, take that walk.

Let Psalm 23 lift your head and revive your spirit.

What speaks to you at the core when you are most down?

When we are hungry for life and joy, we need to eat at the right table.

Let’s replace social media with spiritual food, life, peace, and energy. Like A Thanksgiving feast, let us eat the word at God’s table.

Isaiah 58:11  The LORD will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-scorched land and strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Yes.

Barefoot and bathing in scripture to revive my spirit,

Kim
