Every day of my life I want to read, see, do, or watch something that is encouraging or makes me laugh. My mental health needs it. When I am down or troubled, it is even more important to push out the trouble and refill that spot with something better. I think we all need strength and to feel we are not alone in those moments. It isn’t always easy to keep ourselves moving forward, but there are good ways to do it.
Scripture fills the holes left by the world.
Some verses give an immediate lift to my spirits; others move me to tears. After reading particularly meaningful passages, I walk around all day with the words tumbling through my inner man cleaning up my thoughts and filling places of pain and stress with something better.
What I whisper to myself is powerful.
Scripture can be a balm, a healing salve of promises. Combine it with beautiful music and you will begin to feel whole again.
Because of its power and poetry, I gather individual verses like rocks on a beach and put them in my pocket. When my own words or prayer escapes me, I recall them. And though originally written in Greek and Hebrew, scripture verses I learned in English still have a cadence and lyrical quality that are memorable and touch our emotional center.
Recently when a reader mentioned feeling lost and alone, my mind went immediately to the following scripture without a second thought. It was an instantaneous response in my mind.
Romans 8:38 and 39
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Beyond their beautiful sound, the message of these verses is clear and direct. We are not alone.
When I include verse 37, the message extends to victorious.
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.…
Nothin can separate us from the love of God. Nothing. We are not alone.
For the soft hearted or the broken, the lonely or unfulfilled, scripture fills the holes left by the world, because we are reminded of the love of God.
We are loved and we cannot lose the love of God. Nothing can separate us. Nothing. Not our stupidity or mistakes, our running away or losses. Not horror or cruelty or mans evil.
There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. It is a promise, with power.
Nothing better to heal hearts and fill the emptiness than God’s promises filled with power, music, laughter, words of life.
“Lord make yourself and your love known to me in ways so powerful that I radiate from within with your light and profound life changing joy.” Kim
There is nothing like a deep laugh, good music, real friends to help us feel better. But, to cement the deal, we need a foundation of solid thought. We need truth deep inside.
With poetry and the slice of truth, scripture fills the massive holes left by the emptiness of the worlds promises, so we just have to take them in and make them part of us.
Find your promises. Let scripture fill the holes made by the world.
Barefoot and reading,
Kim
