I have a couple of friends who are summer souls, happiest near the water on a summer day with the sun warming their skin…It is a touchstone, a lovely thing to think about. A place to remember and head back to.
On the hard days, when we can’t or don’t want to get up or leave the house, we need a touchstone like that, a go-to inspiration.
Music usually lifts me out of a grey day, but sometimes it takes something drastic like forcing myself to put down the computer, open all the drapes, shower, make myself look great and go somewhere for a cup of coffee or dinner,
It might be taking care of something that is bugging me or letting go of something, a little prayer.
Or sometimes, away from the things of man…
I know it isn’t always easy to be up, responsible, friendly, healthy, and successful, but up is better than down isn’t it?
Take a few deep breaths and let them out slowly. Now imagine this:
On a warm spring day, it’s Sunny and 75, you are supine (yes supine, I like this word which means face upward & stretched out) in a comfortable lounging chair, laid back with your eyes closed as the tide quietly washes up and goes back out.
Your feet are in the sand, and you are holding your favorite ice cold beverage, while the sun warms your skin.
You wiggle your toes and let the tide wash up and wet your feet. The sound is hypnotic washing up and going back out while you lounge and doze.
A slight breeze is blowing and you are just right. Once in a while you look out and watch the waves come in and go back out, take a sip, and close your eyes again.
Think on those things that are lovely…
worthwhile
delicious
friendly
…and you feel…better.
The power of a sunny and 75 day thinking lovely thoughts is undeniable. So, let the sun shine, breezes come, and relax. It’s your superpower.
Philipians 4:6-8
6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Say a prayer.
7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.…
